Gilbert Receives ASEE Award

Juan GilbertJuan Gilbert, assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, received the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) 2005 Minorities in Engineering Award at a recognition banquet held during the group's annual conference in Oregon.

The ASEE is a nonprofit member association founded in 1893 to promote and improve engineering and technology education. The association is comprised of academic and industry representatives.

Gilbert also received a special recognition award at the Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference in February and was recently invited to the National Academy of Sciences Beckman Frontiers of Science symposia.

Gilbert's research projects include the development of software programs for electronic voting equipment and voice-recognition systems for computers capable of processing a variety of languages. He has contributed to additional research projects and has also been heavily involved in graduate student recruitment.
