In today's ever-changing technical environment, it is more and more difficult
for you as a professional to stay current in your specialty. Current and potential
employers are looking for some assurance that you are keeping up with the latest
advances in your field. Introduction to Information Assurance provides a tangible
verification of your qualifications. While no specific course pre-requisites
are prescribed for this course, it is understood the student understands basic
business functions and has some background in information technology and computer
literacy.
Course Objectives
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- Understand & apply basic principles of Information Security (INFOSEC)
- Understand the differences in generally accepted INFOSEC Models
- Understand generally accepted best practices of Information Technologies
- Identify and prioritize information assets & threats to information assets.
- Define an information security strategy and architecture.
- Plan for and respond to intruders in an information system
- Describe legal and public relations implications of security and privacy issues.
- Present a disaster recovery plan for recovery of information assets after an
incident.
- Conduct a Business Impact Analysis utilizing a Feasibility Analysis Matrix
- Basic understanding of the DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation
Process (DIACAP)
Learning Outcomes: After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Describe threats to information security
- Explain integral parts of information security best practices based on International
Standards Organization (ISO), National Institute of Technology and Standards (NIST),
and Defense Information Assurance Program (DIAP) guidelines
- Describe the need for and development of information security policies
- Identify guidelines and models for writing policies.
- Define risk management and explain why it is an important component of an information
security strategy and practice.
- Describe the types of contingency plans and the steps involved in developing
each.
- Identify security issues related to personnel decisions and qualifications of
security personnel.
- Grasp the proper application of DIACAP to an organizations network environment.

Session Dates and Times: Nov 2nd, 4th, 9th, 11th, and 16th from 3:00pm until 7:00pm CST each day. Students
must flex their time to participate in this course

Course Registration
Step 1: (Boeing employees only) Complete the enrollment process for Boeing's Learning
Together Program (LTP). Register via LTP so Boeing will pay for this course. If
you were hired after October 12, 2009, you must have one year pre-enrollment advising
period before enrolling in the LTP Program.
Step 2: (all participants) Enroll for this course by calling Auburn University at 1.800.446.0382
Step 3: Boeing employees must fax a copy of the Course Notification Voucher to Auburn
(Fax: 334.844.5715).
- If you register by the Thursday before the class starts on Tuesday, you will
receive the materials before the first day of class.
- You can register up to noon on the first day of class, and we will email the
first day's slides and have materials to you before the second class.
