Department of Chemical Engineering

Professor V. A. Davis’ research group has immediate openings for two undergraduate researchers and may have additional positions available in the spring and summer. Information about the research lab can be found on the group webpage and Google Scholar. The open projects focus on self-assembly of inorganic nanomaterials and carbon nanotube dispersions.  Researchers will also assist with the development and implementation of K-12 outreach activities including a camp to be held in June 2019. Students will be expected to work in a collaborative team environment for a minimum of 15 hours a week. Starting salary will be $8/hour or course credit.  Students who make significant  research contributions will also be given the opportunity to present their work at local, regional, and national conferences and author peer reviewed journal articles and provided a pay increase. Previous undergraduate researchers from the Davis group have excelled in graduate schools, law schools, medical schools, and corporations. These alumni include recipients of several prestigious graduate school fellowships including the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship,  National Institutes of Health F31 grant, and NASA Space Technology Fellowship.



  • Sophomore standing or higher, preferably in chemical engineering
  • Available to regularly work at least 15 hours per week Fall 2018, Spring 2019, and Summer 2019.  Twelve of these hours must be  regularly scheduled during normal lab hours of 8:00 am to 7:00 pm in blocks of at least 2.5 hours each.
  • Willingness to adhere to group policies (provided during interview process)
  • Preference will be given to students who are seriously considering going to graduate school
