  • Sarah Gustitus (our former graduate student) received the Master’s Thesis Award from Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors.
  • Jose Vasconcelos was awarded the Telford Premium from the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers, for the paper co-authored by Steve Wright, is entitled Air–water interactions in urban drainage systems, published in Journal of Engineering and Computational Mechanics; Volume 170 Issue 3, September, 2017, pp. 91-106. ICE Awards Ceremony will take place at the ICE Headquarters at One Great George Street, London on Monday 8th of October 2018.
  • Lauren Beckingham was awarded the 100+ Women Strong Leadership in Diversity Faculty/Staff award.
  • Jeff LaMondia was selected to serve on the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety (AAAFTS) Travel Survey Expert Panel.   This panel will meet to discuss recruitment challenges and potential applications (this includes use of panel samples as well as other cost effective methods) and innovative data collection methods (this includes self-administered surveys as well as passive data collection e.g., GPS, smartphone, apps, etc.). Results from this panel will direct AAA Foundation's future data collection and reporting for the United States as well as set the standard for other organizations across the country.
  • Jose Vasconcelos was invited to present a keynote talk in a workshop at Tianjin University, China, in July 2018.
  • Meredith Ayers (CE graduate student), received a Presidential Graduate Research Fellowship.
  • Michael Izzo, senior in civil engineering, has been awarded with this year's This is Research: Student Symposium The title of his presentation was "Bioinspired and sustainable improvement of the crack resistance of clayey soils", and his research advisor is Dr. Marta Miletic.
  • Jeffrey LaMondia was invited to serve as an expert panel member on a project funded by the FHWA’s Exploratory Advanced Research Program entitled “Data Analytics and Modeling Methods for Tracking and Predicting Origin-Destination Travel Trends based on Mobile Device Data.” The goal of the project is to produce OD tables, at both national and metropolitan levels, using all three major sources of mobile device data (cell phone, GPS, and smartphone apps). Dr. LaMondia and the expert panel will guide the research project as well as approve products for dissemination..
  • CE Master student David Whitmore has been awarded with the Katharine & Bryant Mather Scholarship by the ACI Foundation for the 2018-2019 academic year. His advisers are Dr. Jim Davidson and Dr. Marta Miletic.

March 2018

  • Dr. Ben Bowers will join CE faculty and Pavements/Materials group starting in summer 2018
