Local agencies face the challenge of maintaining their deteriorating pavement network with limited funds. Pavement preservation is a cost-effective strategy that allows agencies to maintain the condition of their infrastructure in a state of good repair. When applied properly, this proactive approach can save money, improve safety, reduce user costs, extend pavement life and improve the overall performance of the pavement network.

There are a number of pavement preservation techniques available, including crack sealing/filling, surface treatments, thin overlays, and combinations of treatments. Each technique has been developed to treat specific types of distress and severity levels. Understanding how to select the right candidates for a particular treatment is key for maximizing the benefits of a pavement preservation program.

This one-day workshop will provide engineers with a better understanding of pavement preservation as a part of a comprehensive pavement management program. The program combines lectures and hands-on exercises to help engineers select the right treatment for the right pavement at the right time.
