Name: Shainur Ahsan
Major: Civil Engineering
Hometown: Mt. Olive, Ala.
Shainur Ahsan has always been fascinated with learning how things are put together. As a high-school student, Ahsan often observed construction projects in his hometown and was intrigued with the process behind the product. This interest stuck with Ahsan, and when it came time to choose a degree program at Auburn, he decided on civil engineering.
Auburn Engineering represents integrity and confidence to Ahsan. "I have been taught to never compromise quality to complete a job quickly," he says. "My professors do not teach short cuts to solving problems until we’ve learned the concepts behind them."
"I feel confident that I can acquire a complete understanding of any problem I may face, and I can efficiently work towards a solution thanks to my Auburn education," he adds.
Ahsan also credits Auburn with helping him prepare for future careers. "I believe the person I am today was mainly shaped by Auburn Engineering," he says. "I have learned to step back from a problem and look at the larger picture, which has given me valuable foresight into my coursework and other areas of my life."
As his senior year comes to an end, Ahsan reflects that his best memories came from his involvement in different student organizations. "They provided a break from class and allowed me to establish a great network of friends," he says. "The organizations gave me diverse experiences."
