Name: Ben Byard
Year/Major: Doctoral in Civil Engineering
Hometown: Morristown, Tenn.
Doctoral student Ben Byard likes small towns.
After spending time in the work place in Atlanta, Byard knew he wanted to earn his doctorate at an institution that was a leader in concrete technology and that offered a break from the hustle bustle of Atlanta. "Auburn rated high in both of those area. When I visited Auburn, I found the home town feel and the cutting-edge structural concrete laboratory I was looking for."
Byard had first learned about Auburn while he was a master's student. "I read the papers and was impressed by the reputation of the faculty and the facilities.
Byard believes that Auburn Engineering has lived up to its reputation of excellence in education and research, and prepared him well for the future. "Auburn has provided me with the support to perform quality research and present my findings in publications and presentations," he says. "Now that I'm at Auburn, I know that excellent is an appropriate description."
While Byard has many good memories of Auburn Engineering, favorite is the feeling that he gets when a semester is over, grades are posted and he can look forward to the next one.
