Gani's current research interests include the development of computer-aided methods and tools for modeling, property estimation, process-product synthesis and design and process-tools integration. He has more than 150 reviewed publications and has delivered more than 200 lectures, seminars and keynote lectures at international conferences, institutions and companies. Gani is editor-in-chief of Computers and Chemical Engineering journal, series editor for the Elsevier CACE book series and serves on the editorial advisory board of the Journal for Chemical Engineering Patents, Journal of Process Systems Engineering and Chemical Engineering Research Letters. He is a member of the executive board of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, as well as a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Abstract
A Process Systems Engineering Approach for Managing the Complexity in Chemical Product-Process Design
Chemical product-process design consists of finding the identity of a chemical product, designing the process that can sustainably manufacture the product and verifying the performance of the product during application. The development of chemical products from the life sciences, pharmaceutical and food industries is experiment-based trial and error approaches, while chemical products from the oil, chemical and petrochemical industries use model-based tools in their development. Gani will discuss tools for current and future product-process design and development and complex situations requiring handling of data and knowledge from different sources and at different scales of time and size. He will present the main concepts and their uses in a model-based framework with illustrative examples highlighting the application.
