Abstract

Application Development of Thermoplastic Composites for Defense and Transportation
Vaidya's talk will cover the basic design, materials, processing and product development for advanced thermoplastics. He will also present applications that include personnel protection, vehicle armoring against ballistic and blast threats, weight and cost reduction for automotive and mass transit buses and light rail and truck components such as access doors, floor panels and seats. Thermoplastic composites are increasingly being featured in defense and transportation applications due to their reduced weight, enhanced durability, damage tolerance, recycling potential and ability for repair.
