Biography

Barteau currently serves as the senior vice provost for research and strategic initiatives at the University of Delaware. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, as well as master's and doctoral degrees from Stanford University. Barteau has received numerous honors, including an election to the National Academy of Engineering. He was named one of the "100 Chemical Engineers of the Modern Era" by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Abstract

Lessons Learned from Catalyst Design
Barteau will present challenges that researchers face when attempting to design better catalysts from a molecular-level. He will describe the methodology used to combat these challenges by focusing on reactions where selectivity is the overriding consideration.
