Biography

Cohen's work has focused on the modeling of plastic deformation processes, development of new tooling materials and tribology. His more recent research has examined properties and processes at the nano-scale. He has served in leadership roles in industry-based university research centers, published more than 100 papers and served in editorial positions for leading journals. He has won numerous awards from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education and National Science Foundation.

Abstract

Residual Distributions in Machined Surfaces
Cohen's seminar will include research results which shed new light on the nature of residual stresses in machined surfaces. These results are significant to achieving product quality and are potentially critical to nano-scale physical machining of components for future products.
