Highly-Selective and Regenerable Ion Exchange for Perchlorate Remediation, Recovery
and Environmental Forensics
Perchlorate has recently emerged as a widespread contaminant found in drinking
water and groundwater supplies in the United States and is known to disrupt thyroid
function by inhibiting iodide uptake. Among various treatment technologies, the
highly-selective and regenerable ion-exchange technology has recently been developed
at ORNL for removing perchlorate from contaminated water. Gu's lecture will give
a comprehensive overview of the ORNL's work in the development and employment
of these technologies.
