Biography
Dr Omurtag received BS and PhD degrees from Iowa State University in ME and IE. He also holds a MS degree in Materials engineering from Middle East Tech University in Turkey. Currently on sabbatical at Istanbul Tech University Management Engineering Department from his position as Professor of Engineering and Science at Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania. Dr Omurtag has served as the Founding Dean of the School of Engineering, Math and Science there establishing innovative ABET accredited Engineering programs at Robert Morris. He has served as a faculty member at Iowa State (Mech Tech and ME), California State (Sacramento) (Business), Wichita State (IE) Universities and as Professor and Chairman at UM-Rolla in Engineering Management prior to his current location at Robert Morris.

Abrstract

Educating the Engineer of they Year 2020 & Planning Academic Research
After reviewing the recent National Academy of Engineering works on the engineer of the year 2020 and defining the desirable attributes of changing engineering education in the US, Dr Omurtag will comment on some of the changes needed in our educational processes. He will then review the nature of academic research and give an example of how planning a PhD dissertation can provide good results while saving a lot of time in the process.
