Engineering students sweep graduate scholars awards
Graduate students in the Department of Chemical Engineering received high honors
at Wednesday's Auburn Graduate Scholars awards ceremony. The students received
recognition in each of the nine categories for which they were eligible, including
Outstanding Doctoral Student, Outstanding Master's Student, Engineering Poster
Award and Engineering Oral Presentation.
"We couldn't be prouder," said Chris Roberts, Uthlaut Professor and chair of
the Department of Chemical Engineering. "To earn all nine awards is a great accomplishment
and success for the students and their advisers. We in the department offer our
congratulations to all the award winners on this exciting recognition."
The award results are as follows:
- Outstanding Doctoral Student: Charles Solvason, advised by faculty member Mario
Eden
- Outstanding Masters Student: Matthew Kayatin, advised by faculty member Virginia
Davis
- Harry Merriwether Fellowship: Charles Solvason, advised by Eden
- First Place Engineering Poster Award: Hector Galicia, advised by faculty member

- Second Place Engineering Poster Award: Meng Leang, advised by Wang
- Third Place Engineering Poster Award: Mohammad Akanda, advised Wang
- First Place Engineering Oral Presentation Award: Ryan Sothen, advised by faculty
