Norman Sammons, Jr., a graduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been awarded a 2008-2009 Merriwether Fellowship from the Auburn University Graduate School. Sammons was recognized at the Graduate Student Council Spring Picnic on Wednesday, April 2 at the Davis Arboretum
The Merriwether fellowships were created through a gift from an anonymous donor in honor of Harry Merriwether, a graduate of the class of 1943. Each year departments may nominate one outstanding graduate student, and only four Merriwether fellowships are awarded, with each carrying a stipend of $2,000 for the fall semester. The fellowships are awarded for one year and are non-renewable. The recipients are required to devote full-time to graduate study during tenure of the appointment.
