The new College of Engineering web site can be navigated in two ways.
A. Main
B. Audience
The primary content for the site resides in the main navigation that closely follows the administrative organization of the college. This navigation has many layers and is very content heavy.
The audience navigation is designed to direct visitors to the pages in the main navigation that they will most likely be interested in. This navigation is shallow, the content is light and linking is heavy. Links on these pages allow you to direct specific audiences to information deep in the main navigation. Audience pages also provide opportunities to show off your program and to provide information to target specific audiences.
When organizing these pages and developing content for them, put yourself in the place of the person who is visiting the site. For instance, under business and government, the visitor could be a recruiter interested in learning about your graduating seniors, or a corporate representative interested in partnering with the department, or a foundation checking out your programs when awarding grants. What would you want to tell these individuals and what information in the main navigation do you think they would be interested in?
