During the fall semester of my sophomore year in 2001, I had an unexpected experience. I had finished lab and left the Harbert Building headed for my apartment and noticed an older man standing on the sidewalk in front of Harbert facing Magnolia Ave. He looked confused and lost. I approached him and when he turned around, it was Dean Foy. I knew who he was and he knew me because I volunteered at his 85th birthday party celebration that Saturday before in Foy Student Union. I joined him on his way to Broun Hall. On our walk down Magnolia Ave, we had a great conversation about engineering, Auburn football, and Auburn student life. I mentioned that I was an officer in the University Program Council and in the Foy Student Union practically everyday school day and he liked it. As we walked and talked, other students would stop and say hi to Dean Foy making me feel pretty important to be with him. Our walk ended at the steps of Broun Hall and he thanked me again for walking with him. I will never forget this memory and how it brightened my day to chat with THE Dean Foy.
