I received a BEE degree in 1966 and MS in Electrical Engineering in 1968. (My diplomas are signed by George Wallace and Lurleen Wallace (who only served briefly as governor) respectively.) I worked on a NASA research project under Dr. James Lowery during graduate school, and wrote my Master's thesis on this project. A group of graduate students under Dr. Lowery was studying the guidance platform instruments for the Saturn V program, which subsequently lead to the manned moon landings a year later. I was always happy to remember my small contribution in this greatest of human endeavors, and was sad to hear this month (May 2007) that the sole surviving Saturn V instrument package was destroyed in a fire at the Space Museum in Huntsville. It reminded me that all of us and our accomplishments are temporary.
