Maury Gaston

Gaston, MauryAs a third generation Auburn graduate, Auburn and my family go hand-in-hand.  My grandfather was the first of his generation to attend and be graduated from college.  His Pharmacy career enabled him to provide for his own family in ways not previously possible.  His son, my father, followed in those Pharmacy footsteps and served our community in that capacity for almost 50 years.

Insightful guidance counselors directed me toward engineering.  A corporate scholarship got me started, and as I learned more about engineering careers and opportunities, I selected mechanical as my major.  A mechanical engineering degree from Auburn would open virtually every career door that I could imagine.

As graduation approached, I focused my interviews on technical sales and have thus far enjoyed a 24-year career with American Cast Iron Pipe.  My training and education at Auburn - both within and outside of the classroom - has equipped me to serve my employer, my family, and my community in numerous ways.  I've lived and worked in five states from coast to coast, and my Auburn experience has compared favorably with anyone's from any college.  Today, I'm happy to serve my employer, the College, and the university as a member of the Alumni Engineering Council.

My father was so pleased with my experience in engineering that he directed his planned giving to our College of Engineering and through his estate, many students will enjoy the same opportunities that were afforded to me and my classmates.  I continue that tradition through annual giving in the Eagles Circle, and also through a planned gift.

My family and I understand very well what Dr. Draughon meant when he said, "Owing much to the past, Auburn's greater debt is ever to the future."
