Bequests

Bequests can be stated as a percentage of the estate, the residual of the estate or a specific dollar amount. There are a number of advantages of bequests:

  • They are revocable if circumstances change
  • They allow the donor to make a significant gift without an uncomfortable financial burden during their lifetime
  • They are flexible and allow a variety of options for giving
  • The donor's estate may be reduced by the amount of the bequest for estate tax purposes
