Over the past decade, it has been the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering faculty who have contributed the most in terms of the magnitude and scope of research conducted at Auburn University. At present, extramural research awards average $25 million. To join the ranks of the nation's engineering elite, this figure must increase to $60 million with the ultimate goal of $100 million.
Benchmark data indicate that one of the keys to reaching this goal will be the recruitment of highly qualified, talented professors capable of attracting a high-level of research funding - individuals with the reputation and visibility in research areas of high priority, including:
To be competitive we must be able to offer financial packages to attract National Academy of Engineering (NAE) quality faculty who will draw outstanding junior faculty and top-caliber graduate students.
Specifically, the college looks to increase its teaching faculty from approximately 140 to 210 and the numbers of endowed professorships from 18 to 47, and to recruit five National Academy of Engineering-quality faculty.
To go head-to-head with top engineering schools for the best researchers and educators, Auburn Engineering must offer competitive salary packages through endowed professorships.
