As Auburn Engineering continues to drive pioneering research, the modern Shelby
Center for Engineering Technology will serve as a central location for engineering
research. Phase II of the complex will include an Advanced Research Laboratory.
Building and a new Mechanical Engineering Building. The Advanced Research Lab
will create space for both ongoing and emerging research, transforming the future
of many of the college's research efforts. In this building theories will be proven
and will be translated into new discoveries that greatly impact our quality of
life. It will contain new clean rooms as well as specialty lab space. In addition,
the Advanced Research Lab Building will be a critical component of strengthening
our graduate program. Post-doctoral and graduate student offices will provide
graduate students increased accessibility to senior faculty members and other
students. These offices will allow graduate students proximity to research activities
and will foster a sense of community and collaboration.
The new Mechanical Engineering Building will provide much needed space for classrooms
and student study areas, as well as faculty offices and laboratories. This facility
will enable the department to continue its reputation for outstanding engineering
education and leading research and will free up space in Ross Hall to accommodate
the rapidly evolving and growing graduate program in chemical engineering.
"Undergraduates also profit from a strong research program. It is no accident that nine of the top 10 schools listed by 'U.S. News & World Report' are also listed among the top 10 graduate schools where research is highly touted."
- Larry Benefield, Dean, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering
