Funding Priorities

Because the higher education horizon is ever changing and evolving, the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is committed to securing resources that enable the college to stay at the forefront of engineering education and research. To do this, our funding priorities are focused on our greatest needs in the areas of students, faculty, programs and facilities. While all of your gifts help elevate Auburn Engineering to new levels of excellence, the following are some of our current funding priorities for this year.

The Auburn Scholarship Campaign

Students in classThis initiative, which runs through December 2011, is dedicated to securing funds to support Auburn’s brightest students — the Spirit of Auburn and Academic Scholars. Additional support for current students, as well as funding that enables Auburn to compete for future scholars, enhances the intellectual capability of our campus and strengthens our student body.

This targeted campaign offers an increased return on donor investments while providing considerably larger scholarships to named recipients. Because earnings from endowed scholarships are paired with current Spirit of Auburn or Academic Scholarships, students receive a more attractive and competitive scholarship award. In addition, the entire amount is awarded in the donor’s name.

Unrestricted Gifts

In many ways, unrestricted gifts are our most vital resource for success. They are unique in that they provide Auburn Engineering the means to meet unforeseen needs as they arise and to capitalize on emerging opportunities.Through annual unrestricted gifts, college administrators have the ability to direct funds to the greatest need, in particular, needs that are insufficiently funded through state appropriations. These are the contributions that enable Auburn Engineering to secure an extra measure of success. They are ultimately the difference between a good engineering program and a great one. Annual unrestricted gifts of any size are vital to the college’s achievements. Gifts of $10,000 or more for five years qualifies donors for the Engineering Keystone Society.  For more information on unrestricted giving, click here.

Endowments

Endowments offer both the giver and receiver unique benefits. For Auburn Engineering, endowments provide a steady stream of support for students, faculty and programs by creating a permanent source of income. As such, they enable the donor to leave a legacy to the College of Engineering for many generations to come.

Because the principle of an endowment is invested and the interest income earned is distributed to the program of the donor’s choosing, these funds allow donors to have a lasting impact on the college, thereby providing the highest benefit to both donor and Auburn Engineering.
