David W. Scobey Jr. bio

David W. Scobey, Jr., is president & CEO for AT&T Southeast.  He was named to this position in January, 2007.  Previously, Scobey served as President of BellSouth Retail Markets, an $8B business unit with more than 10,000 employees serving about 12 million residential and small business customers. 

During his 29-year career at BellSouth, Scobey has held many leadership positions across the corporation, including president of BellSouth Long Distance, where he prepared the unit for the largest product roll-out in BellSouth history.  He began his career in network engineering and operations, and has worked in product management, sales, marketing, strategic planning, business development and yellow pages operations.

An active member in his community, Scobey serves on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Auburn University School of Electrical Engineering, the President's Council at Harding University and serves as an Elder at the North Atlanta Church of Christ. He was the recipient of the 2005 Distinguished Auburn Engineer Award and the Lipscomb University Christian Businessman of the Year for 2005.  Scobey was also honored in 2005 by being named to the State of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame.  In addition, he volunteers his skills as a private and instrument-rated pilot for charitable causes.

A native of Nashville, Tenn., Scobey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in Boston, Mass.  He married Debbie Westmoreland in 1977, and they have two married children, Lauren Strahan and Graham Scobey.
