Recruiting
One of the keys to enhancing retention of minorities in engineering is an effective
recruiting plan. The AT&T MEP is implementing the following strategy:
- Identifying schools with strong academic programs in mathematics and science.
- Developing a network of teachers and counselors sensitive to minority issues
and who are willing to help.
- Networking with community colleges that have traditionally provided a pool of
students with a high potential for success.
- Utilize the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME) as
a resource and their College Day forums to identify promising high school students.
