1929-1959: Era of program and facility expansion; three new buildings constructed: Dunstan, Textile, and Wilmore Labs

1960: Renamed Auburn University

1966: Marshall Ray Lyons awarded degree in mechanical engineering, making him the institution's first African-American engineering graduate

1984: The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering established

1984-1986: Two new facilities constructed for the engineering precinct --Broun Hall, a new building for Electrical and Computer Engineering named in honor of old Broun which was demolished and Harbert Engineering Center for Civil Engineering

1999: College offers the Southeast 's first bachelor's and master's degrees in software engineering

2001: Samuel Ginn makes $25 million gift to College of Engineering, the largest single cash gift in the history of Alabama higher education; In 2001, College renamed the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering

2002: College offers the nation's first wireless engineering degree

2004: The first students graduShelby Centerate from the new wireless engineering program
2006: Renovations of historic Ross Hall completed; Textile Engineering renamed Polymer and Fiber Engineering; Construction of new Senator Richard C. and Dr.  Annette N. Shelby Center for Engineering Technology underway
2008: The first phase of the Shelby Center is dedicated. "It Begins at Auburn" campaign ends with the College of Engineering exceeding it's $105 M goal by more than $10 M with more than 9,600 individuals participating.
2009: Construction begins on Phase II of the Shelby Center.
