Construction of the Harbert Engineering Center was made possible by a $5 million gift from John M. Harbert III to the Auburn University Foundation. The new building was designed to house the Department of Civil Engineering. The $3.9 million, 43,000 square foot structure was designed by Golemon and Rolfe Associates, Inc. Because of its location on the perimeter of the campus's historic district, the structure was carefully designed to blend with traditional facades of nearby landmarks such as Samford, Hargis and Langdon Halls.
