The Associate Dean for Academics is responsible for all matters broadly related to academic programs and all experiences which provide students with a superior educational experience. Duties include formulation of academic policies and procedures, transmission of curricular material to the Provost, University Curriculum Committee, Auburn University Board of Trustees, or ACHE; coordination of recruiting activities and academic and pre-professional school advising programs (in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Student Services); adjudication and approval of course substitution and exceptions to university academic/student affairs policies; serve as the college’s diversity officer and work with the Academic Excellence Program; guidance for the established study abroad programs; the promotion of service-based learning; along with working closely with the dean and department chairs in realizing the strategic goals of the college. The college is committed to maintaining strong curricula, outstanding instruction and effective academic advisement to all students.
The associate dean will also serve as a permanent member of the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council; serve on the university Academic Affairs Committee; serve on other university committees that require an associate dean as part of its membership, and will represent SGCOE at various functions in the dean’s absence. Although this position is predominately an administrative one, the associate dean will be expected to be regularly involved in a teaching and/or research program. The associate dean will also serve as the focal point for best practices and research on undergraduate education for SGCOE.

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to begin in Fall 2013. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include research, graduate student supervision, graduate and undergraduate teaching, and service. For applications at the Associate Professor level, a record of success in securing external funding for research is expected, and potential for successfully obtaining external research funding will be considered at the Assistant Professor level position. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field; however, applicants who are ABD may apply if they reasonably expect to complete the terminal degree prior to August 2013. We encourage candidates from all areas of computer science and software engineering to apply. We are seeking candidates specializing in artificial intelligence, computer systems, cyber security, software engineering, and theory. Excellent communication skills are required.
The CSSE Department currently has 17 full-time tenure-track faculty members and supports strong graduate (M.S., M.Sw.E., Ph.D.) and undergraduate programs in computer science, software engineering, and wireless engineering. CSSE enrollment for Fall 2012 is 462 undergraduate and 130 graduate students. Faculty research areas include cyber security, software engineering, computer and communication networks, human-computer interaction, pervasive computing, artificial intelligence, database systems, modeling and simulation, and wireless engineering. CSSE recently moved into the new, $55M Shelby Center for Engineering Technology.
