The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for the position of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. This tenure track appointment is to become effective in Fall 2008.

The department seeks outstanding candidates who have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or related field. The area of research is open, however preferred research areas include biological engineering, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, advanced energy systems, molecularly engineered materials, or sustainable engineering and green chemistry. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to both excellent research and teaching. Rank and salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Chemical Engineering has recently moved into the fully renovated Ross Hall and Wilmore Laboratories which provide cutting edge research, instructional and office space. These recent renovations have totaled $40 Million in the last few years, thus providing state of the art facilities. The department maintains vibrant research programs with more than $4 million annually in sponsored research expenditures. The Department of Chemical Engineering currently has 19 full-time faculty, an undergraduate enrollment of 270 students and a graduate enrollment of more than 75 students, with the majority of these in our Ph.D. graduate program. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has a combined undergraduate and graduate enrollment of nearly 4,000 students and courses in engineering have been taught at Auburn University since 1873. Civil Engineering Job Openings

The Department of Civil Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions starting fall 2008 in the areas of Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering, Pavements and Materials Engineering, and Structural Engineering—all at the assistant professor level. Each of these new faculty members will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop an externally funded research program, direct graduate students, and engage in department, college, university, and professional service. The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  The initial appointment is for a five year term, renewable for a consecutive term.   Successful candidates must possess a distinguished record of teaching, research, and scholarship, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and leadership qualities.  The Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering is responsible for providing leadership in research, teaching, research fund raising, and outreach and should have demonstrated significant accomplishments in these areas.

Consistent with the goals of the College of Engineering, applicants must demonstrate the vision and qualities necessary to lead a dynamic faculty into the Top 20 of all electrical and computer engineering departments in the nation. The Department Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering must have the academic and professional qualifications to be awarded tenure at the rank of full professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  A substantial record of research and scholarly achievements with a national reputation is essential along with a strong commitment to teaching and service.  Previous academic leadership experience is desirable, but not essential.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, established in 1891, comprises 28 faculty, 560 undergraduate students, 50 doctoral students, and 80 masters students. Bachelor's degrees are offered in electrical engineering, with options in computer engineering, and in wireless engineering. The wireless engineering program is offered jointly with the Department of Computer and Software Engineering. Graduate offerings include Master of Science (thesis), Master of Electrical Engineering (non-thesis), and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the areas of digital systems, digital signal processing, wireless communications, electromagnetics and antennas, control systems, power systems, microelectronics, biomedical engineering and image processing.  The department received $4.5M in extramural research funding in 2007, and is home to several research centers and laboratories including the Alabama Microelectronics Science and Technology Center, the Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center, the Laboratory for Electronics Assembly and Packaging, and the Center for Advanced Vehicle Electronics.

Appointment, review, and promotion in the research title series require demonstrated abilities to initiate and maintain a program of research or creative activity supported by contracts, grants or other designated funds.  Appointees in the research title series are not eligible for tenure.  An assistant research professor shall be appointed with a one year contract that may be renewed annually, but not to exceed six years, or if for a lesser period of time, the period of funding from the contract, grant or other designated funds. Appointees are eligible for promotion from Assistant Research Professor to Associate Research Professor, and from Associate Research Professor to Research Professor in accordance with research-track faculty guidelines.  All appointees in the research title series will have annual, written employment contracts. Appointees are eligible for all the benefits of tenure track faculty except tenure and professional improvement leave. 

The externally funded research program is to be in the area of asphalt pavements and should include published work in the following categories:  asphalt materials testing and characterization, mechanistic modeling of flexible pavements, use of recycled materials in asphalt pavements, pavement performance evaluation, pavement management, tire-pavement interaction, and air and water quality issues related to asphalt pavements.

Candidates with a doctoral degree in polymers, materials, or a closely related field, who exhibit a rigorous and substantial academic background in polymers, are invited to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more engineering degrees. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, independent, externally funded and nationally competitive research program in polymer synthesis.
