Judith Bailey, senior in Auburn University's Department of Aerospace Engineering, was recently awarded the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) John R. Sevier Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 prize named for the aerospace leader who spent 22 years with NASA. Bailey was chosen for her strong scholastic records, as well as her educational and career goals.

Sevier was a member of the USRA and served as acting director of the Lunar and Planetary Institute, deputy director of the division of space life sciences and director of the division of educational programs. He led student programs such as the advanced design program and the student explorer demonstration initiative.

Founded in 1969 under the National Academy of Sciences, USRA currently has more than 100 universities in its membership around the world. The association focuses on space-related technical competencies to expand knowledge and develop technology for the benefit of the academic community, space-related industries and NASA.
