Program Information

The Engineering Professional Development Distance Learning Series gives engineers and other licensed professionals an affordable and convenient way to earn continuing education credits. The flexible format can be adapted for either individual or organizational use. The majority of the courses are produced on DVD-R. There are some courses in online delivery format.

CEUs, PDHs, CPCs, LUs

  • CEU - Continuing Education Unit
  • PDH - Professional Development Hour
  • CPC - Continuing Professional Competency
  • LU - Learing Units

These are measures of time and/or effort expended in coursework.  Typically, states require either PDHs or CPCs-one PDH, CPC or LUs one contact hour of instruction.  A contact hour is usually considered to be an hour spent in a classroom situation or seminar.  (We list the contact hours of each course.)  CEUSs are normally issued by educational institutions, and are one-tenth for a contact hour-or .3 for a 3-hour seminar.   So for one of our three-hour courses, we issue a certificate that grants .3 CEUs (point-3), which is convertible to  3 PDHs.

1 Contact Hour=.1 CEU=1 PDH=1 CPC =1 LU

For the courses, the CEU number is exactly one-tenth the number of contact hours—and is therefore convertible to PDHs CPCs or LUs.    (However, in every state the responsibility for determining whether or not courses will be accepted by that state rests with the licensee.  We maintain a permanent record of all CEUs granted.)

Don't let time Expire to EARN CEU's
--> Individual Order = 2 Year Period from date of purchase
--> Organizational Order = 1 Year Period from date of purchase

Individuals may purchase courses with the stipulation that only one CEU certificate will be issued per course. The registration fee includes the course DVD-R or (or web password), a set of handouts, an examination covering the course content and objectives, and CEU processing costs. Successful passing of an examination is required before CEU certificates may be issued. During a period of up to 2 years from the original date of purchase, exams may be submitted. The course completion date on the certificate is based on the postmark on the envelope used to return the examination to Auburn for grading. When completing the exam online, the data of completion will be the data appearing on the exam submission email.

Organizations may purchase single-site 12 month licenses for courses which allows for the issuance of CEU certificates to unlimited members or employees for one year. An assessment of $30 per certificate is added to cover the costs of grading the exam, issuing the certificate and maintaining the required permanent records (for 7 years). The DVD video package includes one reproducible set of the handout and the exam. The exam shall be returned to Auburn for grading along with $30 for each person taking the exam and requesting certification. Organizations may renew their license agreement for an additional year for one-half the current price. Renewal is subject to review to prevent using obsolete material.
